Applications for the 2011 Community Education Grants have now opened.  In 2010 we were able to provide funding to 79 programs touching the lives of thousands of young Australians.

Each year, Ansvar Insurance allocates funds for community education programs aiming to assist young people under the age of 25 to develop a positive attitude to life. We set aside 10% of after tax profit, averaged over three years, to support our next generation of Australians.

Ansvar Insurance was recognised for its outstanding contribution to the community by the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance Industry as finalists two years running for the Service to the Community award.

Grant categories

Ansvar Insurance supports youth oriented programs which generally fall into the following categories:

  • Empowerment and Education. These programs provide proactive opportunities which assist in the development of positive values that lead to healthy lifestyle choices and a positive contribution to our community.
  • Outreach and Support. Programs that support at risk youth who are already experiencing difficulties such as drug and/or alcohol abuse, through rehabilitation and/or skills training.  We value all of our grant recipient’s contribution to Australian Youth.
  • Training Points.  For people delivering the above two programs.

Preference will be given to programs that provide young people with ongoing education and skills which will make a significant difference to their lives.

Some of the programs we are supporting in 2010 include:

  • Focus on the Family - How to drug proof your kids. Delivered across Australia by nearly 2,000 trained facilitators it is primarily a parenting program. This is one of the most successful programs of its type ever developed in Australia. In recent years, the program has been successfully launched in a number of overseas countries including the USA and UK.
  • Motivational Media - Youth development program for high school students. Each year, Motivational Media develops a quality youth oriented program based around a particular theme. The 2008 program was titled "Velocity". A high tech audio visual with contemporary music and video clips and instructional true-life stories is shown at each school. Teachers are given a handbook to follow through the issues raised in the audio visual. Around 22% of high schools had adopted this program by 2006.
  • Aboriginal Literacy Foundation - Provides specialised tutoring to indigenous youth aged 12 to 16 in remote areas of Australia. This one on one tutoring support is provided on a weekly basis with the aim of improving literacy.  This program encourages these young people` to remain in school and achieve a higher level of education, training and skills.
